What Showing Up Really Looks Like — June, July & A Summer Practice

July has a particular quality to it. The light lasts longer, the pace supposedly slows down, and yet somehow the diary still fills up. If you’re anything like me, you’ve had a few of those “I’ll get back to it properly in September” moments already this month. This post is a gentle nudge — for you and honestly for me too — that now counts just as much as September does.

I wanted to take a moment to share what’s been happening over the past few weeks, what’s coming up this month, and a thought I keep returning to about what it actually means to stay consistent with a yoga practice when life is full and summer is doing its thing.

Looking back at June

Somewhere in amongst everything, June turned out to be a meaningful month.

On the 15th, I completed my Reiki Level 1 training, and I want to share that with you — not because I’m launching anything new, but because it mattered. I’ve been drawn to energy work for a while. It feels like a natural extension of everything I already believe about how the body holds stress, and how much there is beneath the surface of a yoga class that’s hard to put into words. Completing Level 1 felt like a quiet personal milestone. I’ve already booked Level 2 for August, and I’m genuinely excited about what it might open up — for me personally, and perhaps one day for the work we do together. For now, I just wanted you to know.

The first live online classes on Skool happened in May and I spent June reading feedback and refining what I will offer in future. Teaching online is a different kind of vulnerability. There’s no room to read the energy, no way to glance across and see how people are settling in. I’ll be honest: I was a little nervous beforehand. But it went better than I expected, and if you were there, thank you. Your presence made it.

And through all of June, the classes continued at Rosendale Allotments, familiar faces, a few new ones finding their way in practicing Hatha on Mondays – which is proving sreally popular. That consistency, those rooms, those people — that’s what it’s all about for me, week in and week out.

July — come to the Allotments while you can

If you’ve never been to Rosendale Allotments in SE21, I want to paint you a picture. You step through a gate and the city sort of falls away. It’s green and quiet and a little hidden — the kind of place that feels like a secret even when you’ve been before. In summer it’s genuinely magical.

There’s something about practicing yoga in a space that’s alive and growing around you that does something different to a studio or a gym. It feels right in a way that’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it.

The reason I’m mentioning it now is that the summer close is coming. July is the last month before the Allotments shuts down for school clubs— we reopen in mid-September. So if you’ve been meaning to come, this is the moment. Classes are small and quiet. You don’t need any experience at all. You just need to show up.

Flow Clinic + Deep Rest — Sunday 12th July

I’m running a special event on Sunday 12th July that I think is going to be a lovely one, and I want to make sure you know about it.

If flow classes sometimes feel a little fast, or there are moments where everyone seems to know what to do and you’re not quite sure where your feet should be — this one is for you. We’re going to slow things right down. We’ll troubleshoot the wobbly moments, explore your personal options for each shape, and then put it all together into a guided flow you can actually enjoy from start to finish. Not perfect — just yours.

We finish with a chat, guided rest, and tea. You’ll leave feeling steadier, clearer, and more confident in your own practice. It’s a small group, so there’s proper space for you, and spots are limited.

A thought for July: on consistency

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I wanted to give it some space here.

It’s not the long sessions that change us, or the perfect classes, or the weeks where everything goes to plan. It’s the small, steady moments of showing up — even when life is full, even when the mat feels far away, even when ten minutes is all there is. Consistency isn’t about doing more. It’s about not letting the gap grow too wide.

Summer has a particular trick it plays on us. Structure loosens, routines drift, and it becomes easy to tell yourself you’ll get properly back into it in September. And then September arrives and somehow the gap has grown wider than you meant it to. I’ve done this myself more times than I’d like to admit.

The question I keep coming back to is: what does consistency actually look like for you, right now, in this season of your life? Because it doesn’t have to look like it did in January. It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s practice. For some people it’s once a week at the Allotments. For others it’s ten minutes on the living room floor before the day starts. For some it might be three deep breaths before bed, just to remember that the body is there and it deserves a moment.

All of it counts. All of it adds up. The practice doesn’t disappear when you miss a week — it’s waiting for you when you come back. But the closer together those moments of returning are, the easier each return becomes.

That’s what I’m holding onto this summer, and I hope it’s useful to you too.

August — Tuesday evenings in Brixton Hill

I’d like to run classes on Tuesday evenings whilst we arn’t able to practice — July 28th, August 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th — at 7pm on Brixton Hill.

You don’t need to commit to all of them. Even one or two dates is brilliant.

Spots are capped to 6 per class and a few are already filled, so I just need a couple more of you to confirm to make each one happen.

Drop me a message via the contact page or email me with which dates work for you and confirm you’re happy to pay in advance (£14 per class).

No online booking for these — just get in touch directly.

Keep the practice alive this summer — Summer Practice Bridge

In-person classes may be pausing for summer, but your practice does not have to.

The Summer Practice Bridge is a 4-week online yoga series created for students who want to stay consistent, supported, and connected until you can return to classes.

You will get four online classes with me, Joy, so you can keep moving, keep learning, and keep your confidence steady — without needing to figure it all out alone.

This is for you if you know summer can easily throw your routine off, but you do not want to come back in September feeling like you are starting again from scratch.

You will also get free access to my Skool community during the series, giving you one place to stay connected and experience a preview of the fuller online practice space I am building.

Your summer practice does not need to be perfect.

It just needs a thread to hold onto.

And if you buy before 10th July, you’ll get premium Skool access included free for the whole month — a lovely little bonus on top.

One small favour — a four-minute survey

I read every single response to these surveys, and I mean that. What you share genuinely shapes what comes next — the classes, the events, the online offerings, all of it. If you’ve been to a class, an event, or tried the online series, I would love to hear from you.

It takes about four minutes, and as a thank you I’ll send you a free recorded class — something extra, not from the summer series, just for you.

Thank you for reading, and for being part of this little community. I hope your summer is full of light, rest, and at least a few moments on the mat.

Warmly,

Joy Tareesut Founder of JOOY YOGA
